RoseWater Energy & PowerStream partner to evaluate benefits of widely distributed energy storage systems

John Mulrooney, Director, Smart Grid Technologies at PowerStream Inc. / 2013/10/07

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – September 23, 2013 – RoseWater Energy Group, a provider of next-generation energy storage products, announces a partnership with Ontario-based energy distribution company PowerStream for an initial phase of in-field trials to measure residential energy storage needs.

Utilizing RoseWater Energy Group’s award-winning Residential Energy Storage Hub, the trials will enable PowerStream to specifically evaluate the effectiveness and benefits of widely distributed energy storage systems for the energy company and its customers. Additionally, because the RoseWater Energy Residential Energy Storage Hub has the capability to maximize all of the benefits of renewable energy sources and condition all incoming power supplies for maximum output, the trials will allow PowerStream to test the performance of renewable energy during peak power periods.

“We at PowerStream are interested in determining the value of highly distributed energy storage for both our customers and ourselves,” said John Mulrooney, Director of Smart Grid Technologies at PowerStream. “We chose RoseWater Energy because they have an excellent management team and their Residential Energy Storage Hub has the features and flexibility we need in order to fully understand widely distributed storage.”

This announcement follows the results of a recently completed PowerStream-supported study conducted by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario to evaluate the impact of a widely distributed energy storage system backed by RoseWater’s Residential Energy Storage Hub on an electrical grid. Load shifting was identified as a main benefit in the conclusion of the study, confirming the critical value of residential storage in smoothing out power demand by storing energy when demand is low and releasing it when demand is high.

The RoseWater Energy Residential Energy Storage Hub is a complete energy management system, providing a reliable alternative to utility power —which can experience voltage spikes and power surges that can permanently damage critical technology systems including valuable electronics, home security and “smart home” control technologies—and conditioning all in-coming power to the home, including that from renewables.

The Residential Energy Storage Hub also takes an agnostic approach to battery support. This unique trait of battery modularity allows utility companies and electronic systems contractors to properly specify and incorporate the perfect battery solution based on factors like local climates, the physical location of the Hub, battery life cycles and the specific demands of the connected systems.
